1783

After nine years the war is finally over. Congress just signed the Treaty of Paris, which officially gives America its independence, and kicks the redcoats out. Also another treaty has been signed to give Florida back to the Spanish. However, we did lose General George Washington from the Army. But all is well in America!

Hurrah! Congress has officially agreed to ratify the Preliminary Articles of Peace, which will stop the fighting. It will also make the British help pay for the war debt, including destroyed property.

I just got news that Ben Franklin has been in England arguing for American independence. And though in the beginning the britts wanted some, but limited power in our government they finally seattled on something they both agreed on. Peace. They signed an informal treaty, the Preliminary Articles of Peace, to cease the war. So I guess this war is finally about over.

Did you hear? General George Washington has defeated the britts at Yorktown. His troops joined forces with about 4,000 french troops to destroy Cornwallis' army. The Continental Army combined with the French Army defeated the redcoats and took over 8,000 prisoners.

This cant be good the British currently have control of New York, Philadelphia, and they have control of most all the southern colonies. And to make things worse, in case you haven't heard, Benedict Arnold has committed treason against this new country and joined the britts.

I've been hearing a lot about this Francis Marion fellow and his new tactics, and they appear to be working. He uses guerrilla warfare, which means he attacks in small swift skirmishes then flees back to a headquarters. Because we have so few men to spare we all ought to use this strategy. It e inflicts maximum damage with less American casualties.

1780

I just got word that back in August our boys lost to the red coats during a battle in South Carolina. But dont loose faith, for Horatio Gates had only half the soldiers he wanted, and those he did have fought with empty stomaches.

I just got the news! The Louisiana Governor, Bernardo de Galvez, has joined the war too, in the name of Spain. He has gathered a small army of Spanish, French, American, and Indian soldiers and driven them deep into florida to fight the red coats. I guess we all hate England.

Great, we've got an actual officer, Baron Friedrich von Steuben, training the Continental Army! I heard he's very strict, but is great at his position. Also after our victory against the britts at Saratoga the French have officialy joined the war effort against England.

I just heard this story of a lady called Molly Pitcher who, when her husband was wounded, stood up and took his place loading the cannons! If you aren't ready to fight after hearing that your a chicken! Even the women and children in their houses up there make cartridges for the soldiers guns.

In case you havn't heard the news, that british General Burgoyne has retaken Fort Ticonderoga from the Continental Army and is trying to block off New York. Hes been making his way from Canada for some time now. Last I heard we had them bogged down in the forests while we dammed the rivers and we continue to sneek up on them during supprise attacks. They're trying to get to Saratoga.

Then back a few weeks ago the britts and hessians came for them when they saw the smoke from their camps, but upon arival we jumped out of the trees and ambushed them.

It's finally done! We finally sent a declaration of independence to old King George. This'll have all them Loyalists high tailing it all the way to Canada. However this will mean war on our part, but im glad its done.

George Washington, from the French and Indian war, is supposed to have arrived at Massachusetts to take command of the Continental Army, after that charge on Fort Ticonderoga. I heard they pulled their cannons and guns all the way up on top of Dorchester Heights and when the Britts saw them the next morning they fled all the way to Canada.

1775

Well, I just recieved word that my own son, who lives in Massachusets, has not only joined the Continental Army, but also fought in a battle. The Britts woke to my son and a few hundered others looking down at them from Bunker hill in Massachusets. The Red Coats kept on attacking but my boy kept them up and down the hill in charge then retreat till we finaly ran low on supplies and had to retreat.

Phillip O'Meagher-1775

I just got news of the rides of Paul Revere and the battle at Concord. I think its about time somebody stood up to the Britts. I've been telling my boys that if the red coats come on my property they'll have to drag me away in chains or shoot me because I'm not going to stand for their treatment of property owners, especaly after that Quartering Act. They wont get in MY house.
